Joining Unitarian Universalism

Unitarian Universalist teenagers usually join their congregations with a special "Coming of Age" ceremony. This ceremony is often preceded by a year-long curriculum helping them to learn more about Unitarian Universalism and articulate their own beliefs. The Coming of Age ceremony usually features the youth reading their statements of personal belief (credo statements) to the congregation.

Adults are not required to be or become baptized or to hold any special ceremony when joining Unitarian Universalism. You don’t have to convert to Unitarian Universalism. No creedal confession or belief statement is necessary to join Unitarian Universalism as an adult, nor is it necessary to revoke your previous faith.  Many congregations instead hold new-member ceremonies, which are often preceded by newcomer's information classes.
