Call for Authors: Tapestry of Faith Curricula for Youth
Two New Curricula for Unitarian Universalist Youth
The Lifespan Faith Development department of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is seeking authors for two youth programs.
- Heeding the Call, a social justice curriculum for junior high, not only examines the ways linked oppressions are perpetuated in our society, it exposes young people to ways to work towards a better world. True stories of courage, sacrifice and collaboration, role-plays, games, and a concluding project will feed youth’s rising realization that as people of faith we are all called to love justice—not just with our words, but also with our deeds. Sixteen workshops.
- A Place of Wholeness will be sixteen workshops for high school youth. Youth—like adults and children—need to be able to talk about what it means to be Unitarian Universalist. Whether delivering an “elevator speech”, taking part in an interfaith dialogue, or conversing with friends at the lunch table, youth need practice in describing our multifaceted faith in terms that are personally meaningful and true. Building upon the faith development of Coming of Age and other Unitarian Universalist (UU) identity programs, this curriculum encourages youth to look inward for a clearer understanding of their personal faith and to express that faith outward into the world.
Writing will begin in January 2009, with full manuscripts due late spring. Authors are provided with a Word-based template for program design and manuscript preparation. UUA staff work closely with authors is developing the curricula and suggesting resources.
Authors interested in applying should review programs currently online and other resources on the Tapestry of Faith website.
