HIP Grant Criteria
The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Holdeen India Program (HIP) supports social change/human rights organizations in India that meet the following criteria:- Organization works with peoples oppressed or marginalized on the basis of
gender, caste, class, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation in their efforts
to secure economic and social justice.
- Organization has proven leadership, broad based support and demonstrated
ability to strengthen peoples' organized bargaining power to challenge unequal
power relationships, resource allocations and exploitative social
conditions.
- Organization has clear perspective and objectives, as well as specific
strategies to address and take action on critical issues.
- Organization builds second line cadre, democratic governance and decision
making and peoples' initiatives, leadership and control of their own
organizations, resources and programs.
- Organization promotes women's rights, empowerment, leadership, management
and representation at all levels within the organization's structure and at all
stages of decision making.
- Organization promotes collaboration with other groups, networks,
movements and issues-based campaigns.
- Organization has potential for significant long term impact on peoples’
power, resources, livelihood, social conditions, as well as wider effects on
public laws, policies, programs and government accountability.
- Organization is accountable to its membership as well as UUHIP and
submits progress and financial reports.
- UUHIP support can make a decisive difference in strengthening the growth, effectiveness or influence of the organization.
